Donate to help the people in Haiti

***HELP NEEDED***

On January 12, 2010 a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck HAITI - near the capital of Port-au-Prince. Although there is still very little information about the extent of the damage - it is predicted to be catastrophic.

This morning I noticed that some bloggers (like the design girl) are raising funds help the people of Haiti. And I was inspired.

I'm not organized enough to set up a personal fundraiser - but I would like to invite you to donate to organizations that are helping in Haiti.

World Vision Canada is there and preparing to distribute emergency supplies to those affected.
The Canadian Red Cross is accepting donations to support Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.
Samaritan’s Purse is rushing to assist in Haiti
Unicef staff in Haiti are mounting rescue efforts.

That's not all...

Let me know if you are making a donation to one of the organizations above by leaving a comment at the end of this post and I will personally donate an extra $5 to the relief effort in Haiti for each donation you tell me about.

We have so much to be thankful for. Let's pass it on by helping those in need.

A.

What a fantastic idea - we just donated to the Red Cross.

Would you mind if we report this on our blog? I'd love to do the same to help.

Great idea Andrea!
Currently watching the View... and they mentionned how they need resources like tents and camping stuff... so, looking through some old (in good condition) gear that I have that I can part with...I guess this year is as good a year as any to change tents!
Great initiative!

Karine - FANTASTIC! Thanks for letting me know about the gear... I'm going to look into it and see if we don't have stuff we can part with... do you know who would be taking stuff like that to get it to Haiti?

Tough one... RED CROSS can only accept certain type of equipment that is part of their loan program....
There's an organisation in Montreal North (Haitiquebeccanada),that is accepting donations. I'm looking at other avenues. My husband's boss is actually going over there, (police mission), so that might be an avenue. Still searching, will let you know

Kathryn

Equipment Donations can be dropped off on Saturdays and Sundays from 3–8 p.m. at 3757 Monselet (corner Rome) in Montreal North. For more info, call (438) 777-8461, or visit haitiquebeccanada.com.

oh, and I've been advised that Donors should designate a specific disaster when making a check or credit card donation to Red Cross or World Vision: Select, or write: Haiti Relief

Good point. If you go to the links I included in the post - and donate online- it should take you to the place to donate directly to the cause. A.

Thanks for doing this Andrea! When you feel so helpless In a situation like this, it's helpful to know where you can make a donation. I have sent money to Samaritan's Purse.

Mathieu & Angela - Thanks to both of you! Another $10 just was added to my donation :-)

... Thanks Stacey...
& thanks to Mike and Amy who donated and let me know on facebook.

I think I'm up to $30. Not the crazy donation I was hoping for but I'll add that on top of what we're going to give... and hopefully I encouraged some of you to give to!

We gave through World Vision since we have a sponsored child in Haiti. (She's safe...she lives in the mountains several hours from Port au Prince.)

But we also have friends right in PaP...no idea how they're doing or what the situation is. I can't imagine...

Thanks for getting the word out, Andrea! Every bit counts!

Andrea,

Jean-Michel and I donated to the Red Cross. Our thoughts and prayers are with Catherine and Olivier's family. They are all safe and Olivier is able to speak with his father everyday. A colleague of Jean-Michel was in Port-au-Prince visiting his family at the time of the catastrophy. He was able to come back this weekend. He said that things are much worst over there than what we see in the media. They burn a tire on every street corner to cover the smell of the corpses... I can't imagine how horrible it must be. Thanks for being so generous... as usual.

Magalie
